Do your kids need a tech detox?

Many years ago the TV was described as the ‘idiot box’ a harmful digital babysitter that would dumb the masses. These days screens and devices are everywhere. Kids as young as 6 months old can swipe and tap on iPad apps, but your average 5 year old in 2017 can’t ride a bike. Are kids today addicted to their devices?

They say moderation is key but SHP believes that many kids are missing out on the best things in early life, such a more play. Yes iPads and the internet are a great learning tool, however kids learn so much more by being outdoors, exploring, making new friends and learning new skills.

School holidays are the best time to let your children be kids. Send them off on a life changing adventure camp or attend workshops and programs that explore many cultural and social skills away from the tech.
If your children insist on going to tech programs such as coding camps, make sure the program organiser provides group and teamwork activities as well as outside free time and play.
